Your GNR Correspondent

If you like aging rock stars, look no further. Chicago's hottest music club on Sunday night was the House of Blues. This three hour concert had everything...multiple hat changes, sing-a-longs, drunk couple fights, drunk couple makeouts, annoying drunk guys getting booted, skrillex haircuts, and that thing where chicks sit on somebody's shoulders with their tits hanging out. Unfortunately I didn't see any midgets, although maybe that's why they gave Axl that platform at the front of the stage to stand and pose on.

Waiting/Hoping/Needing/Getting

I’m just now getting around to watching OK Go’s video for “Needing/Getting,” a song that I already loved, and omg. I’m told that Damian Kulash even took stunt driving lessons so there are no fake doubles.

Thank you Chevy, State Farm, and any other money-logged corporation that would like to fund their harebrained ideas.

"Dancing In Houston"

There's no denying that Whitney Houston was a powerhouse pop star with a powerhouse voice. In the wake of her death over the weekend, this isolated vocal track from "How Will I Know" has been making the rounds all over the internet. Well, here it is mashed up with Robyn's "Dancing On My Own." Enjoy.

(Take it home)

Happy V-Day?

In the locker room this morning at my gym...

TV: Happy Valentines Day everyone.

Her: Valentines Day. Blegh.

Me: Just another day at the office!

Her: Yeah, well, the husband I'm leaving is a sex addict! I have quite the story ladies! *storms out of the locker room*

Hope you're all having a better Valentines Day than this lady!

The Grammy Show!

My man discusses the Grammy Awards his and los on the morning news:

The Joffrey Piece

I was totally geeked to be invited to a rehearsal at the Joffrey Ballet a couple of weeks ago. I've sort of turned into the default dance writer at Chicagoist which is just fine since I enjoy covering all arts, not just music. They have a new program, Winter Fire, beginning on Wednesday, so they reached out and of course I jumped at the chance. (Read my preview AND interview with the choreographer!) Getting to watch these dancers up close in a rehearsal atmosphere was such a treat. I was a competition dancer up until the time I turned 18, but I've still taken ballet classes here and there over the years. 16-year-old-me basically wanted to be these dancers, who am I kidding, today-me still dreams of dancing like that! It all just gives me a greater appreciation of the ability on display.

Here are some rehearsal photos sent to me by their publicist, and some from the Sun Times which are from the space I saw them in. Enjoy!

Times A-Changin'

I said this at the beginning of last month, and it's already ringing true: 2012 is going to be a year of change.

The biggest change so far has been my boyfriend's transition to his fab new job. It's been stressful but exciting for both of us (obvs for him much more than me!), as positive change always is. At my office there have some big personnel changes including a couple of quick goodbyes from the group I support. There has even been a lot of movement on our floor, office space changes that have been rumored for years finally taking place.

It might not sound like much, but when these things have been so quiet for so long, it's odd for so many to shift all at once. And with eleven months still to go, who knows what 2012 still holds in store for us.
