Waiting/Hoping/Needing/Getting
I’m just now getting around to watching OK Go’s video for “Needing/Getting,”
a song that I already loved, and omg. I’m told that Damian Kulash even took
stunt driving lessons so there are no fake doubles.

Today (Attempts To) Go Viral
OK Go appeared on the Today Show (my morning ritual) this morning as part of their "Today Goes Viral" series, and put the anchors into one of their creative creations.

It's Not You, It's Me
I've been absent from the blog for a while. It's not even that there wasn't anything going on, I was just super busy finishing up (and stressing out over) this feature I was writing for Gapers Block (which should go live on Thursday). Work has also kept me super busy the last couple of days, which is why I'm writing this on Wednesday instead of Monday (as if you cared).
I was so busy that I didn't even promote my own DJ gig with my partner Lisa White at Beauty Bar last Friday! In case you're wondering, it went great. A bunch of our friends showed up and people seemed to really like what we played. I hope to DJ there again soon (fingers crossed!)!
Here's the cliffs notes version of everything else I missed:

- LCD Soundsystem announced a show at Metro (which of course sold out right away)
- OK Go appeared on The Colbert Report, complete with Rube Goldberg machine and Colbert Choir
- We saw Free Energy @ Beauty Bar; Missed them at the Daytrotter Barnstormer
- I reviewed The Whigs' show @ Bottom Lounge
- Voxtrot call it quits :(
- Edible Audible Picnic returns this summer (despite worries that it may have fallen victim to city budget woes)
- The INXS phase is in full-swing.

OK Go Come Home For A Night
Hey whats up. So I went to see this little band called OK Go this weekend, who has this little album called Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky out, and who just started this little record label, and just left a BIG record label, oh, and they have a couple little videos you may have seen. All kidding aside, the show was awesome, the band is awesome, and they have become one of my favorite bands around. (That may or may not have anything to do with how I think Damian Kulash is way sexy.)
N-E-WAYs, I wrote this little review of the show, and Tankboy took some pictures.

Openers Worth Getting There Early For
I was checking out the bands opening for OK Go next month at Metro since I'll be covering the show, and came upon The Booze out of Atlanta. Now, I'm always skeptical of a band with a cheesy name like "booze," but they've got some super jingley, sunny mod pop songs with a bit of bluesy grit that sound like they fell straight out of the late 60s or early 70s. In addition to opening for OK Go on 4/17, they're playing a couple of shows here in Chicago prior to that at smaller venues: first at Angels & Kings on the 2nd, and then at SubT on 4/3.
Also opening for OK Go that night are Earl Greyhound from New York. This group also has a throwback sound--a little dirtier than The Booze, a little harder, a little more earning of the "soul" label. Guitar solos? Check. You could say these guys fell out of the 70s a little later with bigger bell bottoms. This is one time that it's worth getting there early for the openers--and we're talking early, this all-ages show starts at 7pm. Getcher tickets here.

Ok Go Takes Another Swing At "This Too Shall Pass"
These guys never cease to amaze, for real.
Here with another how-the-eff-do-they-come-up-with-this-shit single-take music video, Ok Go:
(Oh hey look, an Ok Go YouTube video you can actually embed...)

Where Do They Get These Ideas?
I dont know where OK Go gets the ideas for their music videos, but all I can say is keep it up. They had us at "A Million Ways," got mainstream attention for the now famous treadmill video, "Here It Goes Again"and captivated us again with the wallpaper version of "Do What You Want."
I'd already seen one music video from their new album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky (which is GREAT btw, I'll probably be doing a proper review soon), for the first single "WTF?" and now they've made another single cut video for the song "This Too Shall Pass" featuring the Notre Dame marching band. Enjoy.
P.S. After perusing their website, I found a couple cool things. First, they posted an application you can download to make your very own "WTF?" style video. Second, they've got these packages for sale on their homepage where you can get signed memorabilia from the video shoots (Hey, a band's gotta be creative to make any money these days, and these guys have proven they're full of it.)
